Right off the heels of Capcom releasing the incredible Resident Evil 4 remake, they decide to sneak in another fantastic update. Yesterday, Capcom quietly removed Denuvo from the newest mainline entry in the series, Resident Evil Village! This was confirmed via SteamDB’s update history for the game.
Denuvo is a 3rd-party DRM that is designed to stop people from tampering with the game. Denuvo has caused controversy since it does have the capacity to cause issues with how the game runs and can slow it down. With it being removed from Resident Evil Village, it is possible we could see a slight performance boost on the Steam Deck as well!
We also reviewed the new Resident Evil 4 and gave it 4/5 stars with 3 different groups of settings to play! The game is fantastic and I can’t recommend it enough, especially with the new Mercenaries mode.

Having a mandela effect moment here. I swear this happened already. I know that crackers removed it and Digital Foundry even did a video on how the game ran much better sans denuvo. I swear capcom removed denuvo shortly after that.
